Saint Michael

Saint Michael the archangel is the leader of faithful angles who expelled Lucifer from the heavenly kingdom. His name means “Who is like God” and his name was said to have been the war-cry of the angels in the battle fought in heaven against Satan and his followers. In the Book of Revelation, St. Michael leads God's armies to final victory over the forces of evil.

Devotion to Michael is the oldest angelic devotion, beginning in the fourth century. Tradition holds that St. Michael has four offices: to fight Satan, to rescue the souls of the faithful from the power of the enemy; especially at the hour of death, to be the champion of God's people, and to call away from earth and bring men's souls to judgment.

Saint Michael is the guardian of the Church, the defender of Israel, and the patron saint of Police Officers, Mariners, and Emergency Workers. Many times he has aided those who were faithful to God; he will again come to the aid of the faithful.
