Women in street

The Camillus organization has a long history of providing services to poor and homeless persons, and over the years has built trust and established significant rapport with the “hard to reach clients” who live on the streets of Miami. CMH is committed to ensuring that there is “No Wrong Door” for persons to get help, and has established multiple pathways for clients to access services. Many clients are referred internally from other Camillus programs, including the free afternoon meal, emergency services, substance abuse treatment services, overnight shelter (link to emergency housing), and housing programs (link to transitional housing). The Camillus Health Concern clinic and its Project SafeStreet (link to project safestreet on Health Concern text) Outreach Team also identify and refer many clients, as do a wide range of outside agencies participating in Camillus’ formal and informal networks.

CMH also has its own Outreach Team, comprised of a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and formerly homeless staff, which identifies potential clients and works to build trust and engage them into a hopeful alternative to life on the street. The Outreach Team frequently partners with other local homeless outreach teams in order to engage persons with moderate to severe mental illness, who may respond better to the LMHC.
