Transitional Housing: Miami

Camillus On-Site Housing for Treatment Clients

Transitional HousingA total of 75 beds are available on-site at the 726 NE 1 st Avenue, for adult, homeless men who are participating in one of the treatment-based programs offered at that location. Housing is provided in dormitory style rooms during entry phases, and clients move into more private shared bedrooms as they progress through treatment. Clients in these programs do not need to pay any rent or program fees, since they are participating in treatment on a full-time basis and therefore do not have any income. These beds include:

  • 55 beds for Camillus Life Center (substance abuse treatment program) clients;
  • 10 beds for mental health treatment clients; and
  • 10 beds for Camillus Work Program clients

Camillus Residences and Good Shepherd Villas

A total of 45 beds are available through two facilities for formerly homeless men and women who have recently completed a substance abuse treatment program. Residents receive a great deal of support to help make the transition from their former lifestyles to a new, sober way of life. Mandatory house meetings, daily Alcoholics Anonymous (A/A) and Narcotics Anonymous (N/A) meetings, and strictly enforced rules and curfews help provide clients with the guidance they need during the delicate transition period. At the end of their year-and-a-half stay, residents are ready to re-enter society as fully independent, self-sufficient individuals. Formalized case management services and a comprehensive Life Skills Education program further assist clients through their transition period.

St. Jude Center

The St. Jude facility, located in downtown Miami directly across from the Somerville Residence, provides transitional housing for 8 single men or women, in 8 one-bedroom units. The program targets individuals who are recovering from substance abuse or who have HIV/AIDS, providing a supportive living environment helping residents attain independence.

Cottages on the Beach

Transitional housing for 16 single men and/or women is provided through 4 two-bedroom apartments in the North Beach neighborhood of Miami Beach. Camillus leases the entire building, ensuring that the living environment remains supportive and drug and alcohol free. Clients receive case management and employment assistance during the 6 month program.
