Camillus House Honored with Reflections In Excellence Award

The value and importance of volunteerism was the theme at a luncheon held last month at the Conrad Miami Hotel, as Camillus House was recognized for its 46 years of service to the South Florida community. The Reflections in Excellence award, which was founded by Miami Today and the Conrad Miami Hotel, is aimed at improving the community by strengthening the efforts of non-profit organizations.

Accepting the honor on behalf of Camillus House was Dr. Paul Ahr, its President & CEO. Speaking to an enthusiastic audience, Dr. Ahr spoke about the mission and spirit of Camillus House’s staff and volunteers when he stressed that: “The formula for the success of Camillus House is really very simple: here people with overwhelming needs meet people with unlimited generosity.”

Camillus House also used this unique opportunity to highlight the importance of volunteering through its new volunteer initiative, the Camillus Leaders – a group of young professional who share a desire to make a difference in the lives of poor and homeless men, women and children served by Camillus House.

Keynote speaker Bob Dickinson, President & CEO of Carnival Cruise Lines and Chairman of the Camillus House Board of Directors, spoke passionately about the importance and intrinsic value of volunteering. “Charity is more than signing a check or feeding Camillus House residents — it is a way of living,” Mr. Dickinson explained. “It is kind, humble and unpretentious — a sentiment shared by all faiths.” Inspired by his words, many in the audience signed up to be a Camillus Leaders to help the organization reach its goal of ending chronic homelessness in Miami.

Camillus House is grateful to Miami Today and the Conrad Miami Hotel for the honor of this award and the opportunity to continue sharing its mission with our community. For nearly five decades, Camillus House has been providing individuals and families in need with critical services such as food, shelter, healthcare, treatment and housing.
