CAMILLUS’ CEO HONORED WITH COMMUNITY HEALTHCARE AWARD - PAUL R. AHR, PH.D, NAMED 2008 HEALTH CARE HERO

Recognized for the “extraordinary impact” he has made in South Florida’s health care community, Camillus House President and CEO Paul R. Ahr, Ph. D., has been selected as one of The Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce’s 2008 Health Care Heroes.
Ahr, who oversees Camillus House was chosen for the Individuals of Merit award category. The 2008 Health Care Heroes were selected by the Chamber’s Healthcare & Bioscience Committee, which chooses award recipients whose “acts of heroism represent a display of dedication to excellence in their area of expertise, beyond the scope of their profession.” This is the 11th year of the award program.
Ahr is a licensed psychologist who specializes in mental health and rehabilitative treatment. Ahr said he is humbled and by the Individuals of Merit award, and commended the work of his colleagues at Camillus House.
“Every day it is an honor for me to work alongside the clinicians at Camillus Health Concern and Camillus House who, in addition to mastering the sciences of healing, have mastered the art of caring,” said Ahr.
Before tackling the top job at Camillus House Miami, Ahr was the director of Missouri’s Department of Mental Health. Ahr is an accomplished writer as well, having authored two books on public mental health services and co-authored a third book on employee retention, with his son, Dr. Thomas B. Ahr.
Some notable past recipients of the Health Care Heroes award, include: Lois B. Pope of Leaders in Furthering Education, David Lawrence Jr. of The Early Childhood Initiative Foundation, and Dr. Pedro J. Greer, Jr.
