FLORIDA MARLINS PLAYERS PREPARE FOR A CHARITABLE APRIL 18TH VISITING CAMILLUS HOUSE, DAILY BREAD FOOD BANK RECLAMATION CENTER

For Immediate Release
MIAMI, FL – Three Florida Marlins players will “step up to the plate” on Friday,
April 18, 2008, serving food to South Florida’s chronically homeless at Camillus House of Miami and visiting the Daily Bread Food Bank Reclamation Center.
Starting pitcher Burke Badenhop, relief pitchers Taylor Tankersley and Matt Lindstrom will arrive at Camillus’ homeless shelter, located at 726 NE 1st Avenue in Miami, at 11:30 a.m., where the players will serve food to the homeless and tour the not-for-profit facility, which serves an average of 1,200 meals daily.
The charitable road trip will then continue to the Daily Bread Food Bank’s Reclamation Center, located at 1363 NW 155 Drive in Miami. Expected to arrive at 1:00 p.m., Tankersley and Lindstorm will meet with staff members and tour the facility. The tour is a taste of charitable things to come for the two local non-profits. Through their work with the Florida Marlins Community Foundation (FMCF), the players will host a charity dinner at their home – the outfield at Dolphin Stadium.
The 12th annual Dinner on the Diamond will take place on Sunday, May 18th, immediately following the Marlins vs. Kansas City Royals game. The “picnic in the Park” is open to the public and will feature a buffet dinner, silent auction, and a chance for donors to mix, mingle, and play catch on the field. The special event is presented by 790 The Ticket, and proceeds from tickets sales will benefit Camillus House of Miami and Daily Bread Food Bank. For more information about Dinner on the Diamond, visit www.cornerstonesforkids.com.
About Florida Marlins Community Foundation
The Florida Marlins Community Foundation (FMCF) was established in January 1999. A community foundation represents the resources of a large number of donors rather than one individual or family.
Revenue comes from four sources: player contributions, corporate sponsorships, grants, and events. The purpose of this not-for-profit charitable organization is to promote educational, athletic, health, social and community service programs with a particular focus on South Florida's youth. Since its inception, the FMCF has given back over $5 million dollars to the community.
About Camillus House
Camillus House has provided humanitarian services to the indigent and homeless populations of Miami-Dade County for 47 years. Established by the Little Brothers of the Good Shepherd in 1960, Camillus House has grown steadily over the years from a small overnight shelter into a full service center for persons who are poor and homeless.
About Daily Bread Food Bank
Daily Bread Food Bank, a non-for-profit organization founded in 1981, empowers other South Florida Non-for-profit organizations to feed needy people and improve their lives. They do this by providing food and other grocery products; and by educating and engaging our community to fight hunger and poverty.
