CAMILLUS HOUSE RECEIVES $500,000 GRANT TO ASSIST FAMILIES AT RISK OF HOMELESSNESS

MIAMI – The Miami-Dade County Homeless Trust has awarded a $500,000 grant to Camillus House to operate a Homelessness Prevention Program for families at risk of losing their homes.
According to Camillus House President & CEO Dr. Paul Ahr, the grant will fund four new staff positions and an array of specialized support services dedicated to assisting needy Miami-Dade families. Beginning October 1, local residents will have access this assistance program by calling 877-994-HELP (4357).
Trained Camillus House representatives will be available to provide telephone assessments in English and Spanish for individuals whose families are at risk of homelessness.
In cases of financial distress, these representatives will initiate a review process that can provide limited emergency assistance to households in extreme need. Camillus House clinicians and other specialists also will give in-home counseling, life-skills classes and other forms of professional support.
“The goal of this new program is to reach out and help financially challenged families before they lose their homes,” Dr. Ahr said. “Our community’s current economic and housing environment is forcing families to make desperate choices. Thanks to this new grant from the Miami-Dade County Homeless Trust, we are able to take steps to prevent them from becoming homeless.”
Serving the South Florida community since 1960, Camillus House is a non-profit organization that provides humanitarian services to poor and homeless men, women and children.
