OFFICIALS BREAKING GROUND ON MAY 21 AT SITE OF LABRE PLACE AFFORDABLE HOUSING FACILITY IN OVERTOWN

May 14, 2008

MIAMI – Biscayne Housing Group, Camillus House and Carlisle Development Group will break ground at the site of Labre Place, a new 90-unit residential building for formerly homeless and low-income residents, on Wednesday, May 21 at 10:30 a.m. The Labre Place property is located at 350 Northwest Fourth Street.

Invited guests at the ground-breaking ceremony include city, county, state and federal officials, as well as the officers, board members and staff of Biscayne Housing, Camillus House and Carlisle Development.

Labre Place will be a nine-story high-rise building, consisting of 90 one-bedroom apartments. Fifty of the 90 units will be set aside for persons who were formerly homeless and will be placed by Camillus House. The remaining 40 tenants will be individuals who qualify as low-income residents under federal guidelines.
Labre Place was awarded federal Housing Tax Credits, a State Apartment Incentive Loan in the 2006 Florida Housing Finance Corporation Universal Cycle, and Miami-Dade County surtax funding. It was named in honor of Benedict Joseph Labre, the Catholic Patron Saint of persons who are homeless.

The new residential building will have excellent proximity to local public transportation and Interstate Highway 95. In addition, residents have easy access to Camillus Health Concern, a local leader in providing primary health care services to the homeless and low-income populations of Miami-Dade County.

Biscayne Housing and Carlisle Development Group will take the lead roles in all construction and management services related to the project. Camillus House will provide all supportive services to the formerly homeless residents to ensure their stability and quality of life. These services will include medical care, behavioral health treatment and employment assistance.
