CAMILLUS HOUSE TO CELEBRATE THANKSGIVING WITH THE HOMELESS

MIAMI (November 20, 2006) --- Camillus House will celebrate Thanksgiving Day by serving the South Florida community with a Thanksgiving dinner for the homeless of Miami on Thursday, November 23rd. The traditional meal of turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce and pies will be served from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM. The free meal is open to all of the poor and homeless of Miami.

The preparations will begin the day before, with our chefs bringing nearly 150 turkeys to the Hyatt Regency at Miami Convention Center for roasting, since the Camillus facilities are too small to accommodate the large number of turkeys needed.

This important event is sponsored by Ocean Bank and Gallagher Financial Systems. Ocean Bank is long-time supporter of Camillus House and the mission of the Brothers of the Good Shepherd. Ocean Bank has sponsored Camillus’ Thanksgiving feast for close to a decade. Their continued support has made it possible for Camillus House to provide thousands of traditional Thanksgiving meals to the men, women and children who need it most in our community.

More than 150 volunteers who will help prepare and serve this traditional Thanksgiving Feast. Shifts begin on Wednesday evening, with volunteers preparing food and decorations. They will work well into the evening carving the roasted turkeys. On Thursday morning, volunteers will help set the table cloths and set out the centerpieces before the meal is served at 11:00 AM. Additional volunteers will sort the many cans of food donated the holiday week.

The Thanksgiving Day festivities will begin with a prayer service at 10:30 AM at Camillus House, 726 NE 1st Avenue. The Thanksgiving feast will be served starting at 11:00 AM.

Camillus House serves over 1,000 meals a day, six days per week, providing over 360,000 free, hot meals in 2005.

All press is invited to join in the festivities. For more information, contact Sam Gil at (305) 374-1065, ext. 328.
